A View to Remember Over Seneca Lake
At Diamond on Seneca, there’s one place where time seems to slow down, conversations soften, and the light hits just right: The Overlook.
Poised above the western shore of Seneca Lake, The Overlook is our signature outdoor space—a sweeping deck where guests sip cocktails under the sky, watch the sun sink into the water, and celebrate life’s most joyful moments with one of the most iconic views in the Finger Lakes region.
The Setting
Framed by tall trees and rolling hills, The Overlook offers panoramic, west-facing views of Seneca Lake, the largest and deepest of the Finger Lakes. It’s a favorite spot for golden hour toasts, sunset ceremonies, or just catching a quiet breath before heading back into the celebration. From here, you can see the water stretch for miles—a wide expanse of sky and lake that creates a cinematic backdrop for any event.
A Bit of History & Lore
Seneca Lake has a story all its own. Formed by retreating glaciers over 10,000 years ago, it reaches a staggering depth of over 600 feet, making it not only the deepest of the Finger Lakes, but also one of the deepest inland bodies of water in the United States.
Its name comes from the Seneca Nation, part of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, who have called this region home for centuries. According to legend, Seneca Lake is known as the "Lake of the Shining Waters", a name that still fits today as light dances across its surface from morning to dusk.
Locals say the lake never gives up its secrets. Some believe its depths hold sunken steamboats, wartime testing crafts, and even a cold-water creature akin to a Loch Ness monster. Whether or not the myths are true, there’s no denying the magic that lingers here.
Design & Experience
The Overlook was designed to feel effortless—clean lines, natural materials, and just enough space for a 100-person gathering without taking away from the star of the show: the view. Whether you're hosting an intimate ceremony, mingling over hors d’oeuvres, or capturing portraits during golden hour, the Overlook is a space that feels grounded, elevated, and unmistakably Finger Lakes.
At night, bistro lights twinkle overhead, and the air cools as the lake reflects the stars. It’s the kind of place guests talk about long after the weekend ends.
Events That Shine
From cocktail hour to wedding ceremonies to laid-back brunches the next morning, The Overlook is one of our most flexible and beloved spaces. It offers couples a front-row seat to nature’s show and a built-in moment of awe. For guests traveling from out of town, it’s a chance to fall in love with the region. For those of us who live here, it’s a reminder of why we stayed.
